WEN 4276 Bench Grinder Review

WEN 4276 Bench Grinder Review

The WEN 4276 is a pretty affordable choice for a bench grinder that suits beginners.

The WEN 4276 Bench Grinder Review

1. Power

Powered by a 2.1 AMP motor, this bench grinder’s no-load speed is an impressive 3,450 RPM (rotations per minute). A combination of speed and power that can sharpen the toughest steel.

Moreover, the motor is able to keep a smooth performance without stalling regardless of how hard you press against the wheels.

The power switch is easily accessible as it’s conveniently positioned at the front of the unit.

I’d recommend this model for beginners and casual DIY-ers that are looking to do some grinding and tool sharpening.

However, if you’re a professional or if you’ll be doing heavy-duty work and polishing metals, you should look for a more powerful bench grinder.

2. Grinding Wheel

The WEN 4276 allows you to work comfortably with its 6-inch grinding wheel. You can also choose the bigger 8-inch diameter variant.

The ½-inch arbor makes suitable for grinding various tools such as chisels or knives.

Furthermore, you can choose between 2 different grit sizes. Either a fine 60-grit wheel or a coarser 30-grit one. So it's versatile enough to suit several purposes.

Finally, you don't have to worry about your wheel chipping away or breaking with use as it's made from high-quality mineral material.

3. Base

The base of the WEN 4276 provides you with sufficient stability provided that you set it up on a flat surface.

The stability provides you with a higher degree of accuracy and utility.

The downside, however, is that the model doesn’t come with insert mount holes, so you can’t secure it to a workbench with bolts.

4. Safety

Safety is one of the most important aspects –especially when it comes to power tools.

The WEN 4276 comes with a reliable, transparent spark deflector to protect you from debris and sparks while giving you visibility to see what you’re grinding.

5. Ease of Use

You can easily move the WEN 4276 and position it in the way that best suits the way you work as it weighs around 16 pounds.

In addition, it comes with a detachable work light that increases the visibility of your work area.

Being a clip-on system means you can easily remove it and relocate it to focus on specific areas of work.

6. Noise

The small motor size on the WEN 4276 means that this grinder doesn’t make much noise as it operates.

This means you won’t need to use ear protection as you operate your bench grinder and you won’t cause any commotion using it in your garage or workshop.

7. Price

The WEN 4276’s price is one of the best features on it. It’s very affordable compared to other models on the market.

It’s the best budget-friendly best bench grinder, in fact.

Although there are other grinders of higher quality, this one combines well between affordability and good performance so it's an excellent bang for your buck.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Affordability and great value for the price
  • The silent operation that spares you the need for ear protection
  • The clip-on light system gives you visibility and freedom to relocate it as needed
  • Freedom to choose between a 6-inch or an 8-inch wheel
  • Freedom to choose between a 60-grit or 30-grit wheel
  • Conveniently-located and easily accessible power button
  • Transparent spark deflector on either wheel for safety and visibility

Cons

  • Not the best in terms of performance
  • Subpar polishing especially with high-density materials
  • Not the best construction quality as many parts are made from plastic
  • No, insert holes for the grinder to be bolted to a bench for more stability

Final Thoughts

If you’re a casual DIY-er who’s looking for an affordable bench grinder to add to your arsenal, I would definitely recommend this model.

It works very well for sharpening various metal tools as long as they’re not too big in size.

However, the WEN 4276 isn’t the best when it comes to polishing. Although it can do some polishing jobs, the small motor doesn’t really help when it comes to getting the best results.

For some casual grinding and sharpening, the WEN 4276 is the best model you can get for the money.
